A Korea-Japan "One Team" Research Project Launches to Uncover the Origins of Elements
– RIKEN–IBS Top-Tier Project –
Main Points:
RIKEN (Japan) and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS, Korea) have officially launched a new joint research initiative under the Top-Tier Program.
The project began with the Korea–Japan Symposium on Extreme Rare Isotope Science, held at Seoul National University on December 16–17, 2024.
The initiative aims to uncover the origins of elements through collaborative studies in extreme rare isotope science, which involves generating and analyzing rare isotopes using heavy-ion accelerators.
Participating Institutions:
Japan: RIKEN Nishina Center, University of Tokyo CNS, KEK IPNS WNSC
Korea: IBS–IRIS, CENS, Seoul National University, Korea University, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI)
Key Facilities: RIBF (RIKEN) and RAON (IBS)
This project is one of four new research topics selected under the Korean government’s Top-Tier program in 2024.
