  • Joint institutions (limited to cases where foreign institutions participate as joint partners and contribute research funding) are subject to the rule that one researcher may be involved in up to six research projects, and one PI may lead up to four.

  • No. Matching may be done either in cash or in kind.

  • No. Participation is open to top-tier research institutions from scientifically advanced countries with which Korea has maintained close cooperation (e.g., USA, EU, UK, Japan).

  • No. However, participation by corporations may be considered in the second phase depending on the research content and expert evaluations.

     

  • Yes. Both domestic and foreign institutions may be designated as joint or subcontracted participants in a single project.

     

  • Yes. They are considered participating researchers (classified under a single joint institution).

  • No, overseas researchers are not subject to the project count rule ((i.e., participation in up to five projects and PI for up to three).

     

  • If retirement or resignation is expected during the project period, which may affect eligibility, the applicant must consult the secretariat in advance before applying.

  • If Institution A is the lead institution, it cannot also participate as a joint or subcontracted institution within the same project.

  • Yes. Personnel exchange (e.g., dispatch of Korean researchers, invitation of foreign researchers) is mandatory and will be reviewed at each stage evaluation.

  • It is the project number (starting with RS-) assigned upon registration in the IRIS system.

  • Yes. It should be signed during the first year of project implementation.

  • Yes. Contracts between institutions regarding research outcomes should comply with the provisions specified in the official project announcement.
